Safe America Foundation Promotes Safe Driving With Cobb Safe Community Grant

Cobb Safe Community 10th year renewal with the Safe America Foundation

Marietta, GA (Oct. 25, 2011)For the tenth consecutive year, The Safe America Foundation has been awarded a Cobb Safe Community grant. The $62,200 grant from the from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) will allow the Cobb County based Foundation to promote hands-on safety programs and events in north metro-Atlanta.

Specifically, the 2011-2012 fiscal year grant will fund educational safe driving activates and programs for students in middle and high schools, the elderly and businesses. The Foundation’s focus areas will include the dangers of unsafe driving practices, texting laws and distracted driving, and promotion of Students Against Destructive Decisions chapters in Cobb County high schools. Other areas of involvement will include coordination with Cobb County law enforcement agencies on the traffic enforcement projects Click It Or Ticket and Operation Zero Tolerance.

“We have enjoyed a strong relationship with Cobb County citizens since we first began providing Cobb Safe Community programs to in 2002, with funding from the Governors Office of Highway Safety,” said Safe America President and CEO Len Pagano.

In addition to safety activities funded through Cobb Safe Community, the Foundation is also again partnering with the Allstate Foundation, Georgia PTA, and 100 Black Men of Atlanta on Safe Teen Georgia. This program holds contests to encourage PTA parents to be more involved with their teens’ driver education, high school student government organizations to promote seat-belt use and anti-drinking and driving messages, and youth participation in state-certified drivers training courses.
